Life is looking up

I've had a girlfriend for a week and a day now, and have to say that it has been the best week and a day of my life. This may be really too soon for me to say something like this... but it is how I feel.

Anyway, allot is happening in Israel, and all the surrounding area... I'm not going to get into it, but I will say that we are right, and that this fight is just and must continue until some sort of peace is restored.

Life in the "Big City"

This title is such a cliche for someone in my shoes. Having moved recently to Tel-Aviv, I feel I have the right to pass judgment on a city that I obviously know so well. Tel-Aviv... Beggars, drunkards, prostitutes, homosexuals... all right on my doorstep. But so what?! They exist everywhere, bothering us, or not depending on what kind of a person you are. So what is deferent?
Well it's dirty. It smells. It's loud. It's big. Big, big, big.
I will admit that I am getting used to it. The foul stench doesn't bother me anymore. The beggars don't bother me anymore. The trash still bothers me...
Changing subjects: school is great.

Holiday cheer

The football season 6 weeks old. SIX WEEKS!!! Dang. Only 11 left. Eleven weeks of hard hitting, spiral throwing, touchdown dancing, fieldgoal kicking, Lambeau leaping fun.

What a diverse sport football is, what with the differences between linemen and running backs, linebackers and quarterbacks. The strength, speed and grace of the game are incomparable. But still football is a fleeting moment in time, a mere glimpse of the greater picture that is life (yes. football is a glimpse of life itself). So as we near the end of this holiday season, what is worth thinking about and what is worth leaving to Sundays in front of the TV?

There are a number of issues I want to hash out, to debate and look at in many different lights, but it would take me way too long to do so. Religion, faith, politics, abortion, Israel, Palestine. I have written about all of these things before and yet never grow tired of them. They continue to evolve, and change in my mind and in the minds of others. Sometimes I wonder if truth is a constant or if it changes as well like a chameleon to adapt to it's surroundings, but then again if God is truth, and God is unchanging, then the truth must be the same yesterday as it is today and will be forever. Right?

What if God is not unchanging. In the "Old Testament" we are supposed to kill homos. The Israelites were ordered by God to cleanse the land by killing all of the pagan locals, even the children. Is this the God we believe in now? The God of love and forgiveness? The "New Testament" teaches that women are to sit quietly and learn from their men and yet I was just at a conference where Heidi Baker spoke, and I had no problem with the fact the she is a woman, and neither did anyone else. So what's the deal here?

The World is blind.

I looked at some videos on youtube from a group called "If Only Americans Knew". This group is what I would term "anti Israel".

I continue to be amazed at the naivety and casual blindness that so many people seem to view Israel with. Wether they are pro or anti, none of them really have a freakin' clue as to what really is happening. You say that you support Palestine. Why? You say that you are against "the wall", that it is inhumane. Why. Or you say that Israel can do no wrong, that all our soldiers are brave heroes even the ones that commit acts of cowardice by humiliating Palestinians for no reason, for brutally beating them without cause, for treating them as though they are not humans. You call 15 year olds who threw rocks at army jeeps terrorists. Or you call Israeli use of force excessive, forgetting (or just unaware) that every day Israeli security forces stop terror attacks, large and small.

Go ahead. Sit on your high horse and judge us or them. You have no clue what is happening. You think you are fair minded, that you have a progressive, modern and intellectual way of viewing the world. Or you love Israel because we are the "apple of God's eye". You are only lying to yourself. Maybe someday you will understand. I doubt it.

Every day there are more and more of you. Young "intellectuals" who know more than everyone else. You know what is going on in Ramallah and Shchem and Jenin and Gaza because you see snippets on the news or you read some editorial in the newspaper. I was involved in an incident that some international new agency claimed 40 Palestinians were killed and that a tank was involved. 0 were killed and there was no tank. I also stood by and let an Israeli soldier brutalize a handcuffed man, something that I will have to live with and that I am far from proud of.

You have... no clue. No clue.

Financial collapse = the end of the world. Or not.

The title is misleading. I don't want to talk about the financial fiasco that is rocking the US and the better part of the world right now. I want to talk about abortion.

Here is the deal about abortion: It is the most important subject that can be discussed and must take priority over all other things when deciding about who to vote for. Granted, Democrats are better for the economy, but if you believe as I do that abortion is murder, then there is no other thing to take as seriously. If abortion is murder, then standing around and letting it happen makes us no better than the Nazis. If it is genocide, then we all have the blood of millions of humans on our hands.

If Obama or McCain were telling us that they would make our lives better, ease the financial crises and restore the USA to it's rightful place of greatness and supremacy and blame all the worlds problems on Jews, you would probably not vote for either of them. If one or both of them said that the killing of Jews is not necessarily murder but they need to think about it a little and come to a final decision, then you would not vote for them.

Since when have we decided to turn a blind eye to this? Why do we stand around and discuss this?! It is true though, that there are a few instances that must be debated, namely: If the pregnancy posses a threat to the mothers life.

According to Jewish law, the mothers life is more important than the infants, therefore partial abortion is permissable if the mothers life is at risk. It is hard to contradict this, but the idea of an abortion because of rape, financial difficulties or even just because of not wanting a baby is unacceptable.

If you want to see what the two candidates think on this subject: J. McCain, B. Obama
